Monitoring - IS&T has deployed patches to several critical servers. Our security staff continues to work with departmental staff and third party vendors to ensure all patches are deployed or appropriately mitigated. IS&T is reviewing certificate revocation and reissue procedures and will be in contact with affected services to coordinate certificate changes. At this time, IS&T is not recommending mass password changes due to this vulnerability in light of our existing password expiration controls.

Identified - A major security issue affecting the OpenSSL library was released on Monday night. The vulnerability affects a large number of websites both at GSU and on the Internet. The impact of the vulnerability can cause data currently being processed by the server to be released inadvertently. This can include SSL private keys used by the server to secure communications.

We have no evidence this particular bug has been exploited at Georgia State. We are currently identifying campus assets that may be affected, working with vendors, departmental admins, and deploying patches. As we identify campus assets, we will notify departmental staff of any issues involving their departments. We are also working with the USG system office to ensure services used by GSU are protected.
